C-section, induction, or waiting for labour to start on its own?

What nobody explains before you are asked to decide.

A free live hour with Emma, a midwife of 18 years.

Emma, midwife and founder of Elythia Maternity

This is for you if

  • You are pregnant, at any stage
  • You want to understand what is happening, not just hear "it's fine"
  • You are worried about an induction or a C-section

It's not for you if

  • You are happy to go with the flow. That's fine, truly.

Why this matters to you

Near the end of pregnancy, many women have to choose.
The choice often comes fast.
Often, nobody explains it first.

1 in 3labours in England are induced
Nearly halfof babies are born by C-section

So this choice may be yours too.

It's not that your midwife doesn't care. The system gives her very little time.
Nobody is going to sit you down and explain it. So I will.

There are 3 ways your birth can start

1

Labour starts on its own

This is called spontaneous labour.

2

Induction

Your midwife or doctor starts labour for you.

3

C-section

Your baby is born by an operation. It is also called a caesarean.

In this one hour, you will:

1

Understand the 3 ways your birth can start, in simple words

2

Know when each choice usually comes up, and why you might be offered it

3

Hear what nobody tells you about each one

4

Learn the questions you need answers to before 36 weeks

5

Check how ready you are, with 5 simple questions

6

Ask me your own questions, live

You will leave knowing what is coming and what to ask. So when the moment comes, you are not surprised, and you can make the choice that is right for you.

Emma Rajakrishnen

Hi, I'm Emma

I have been a midwife for 18 years, in the UK, Italy and the UAE. I have a Master's in Midwifery. I worked in NHS quality, checking how well maternity care works, and I contributed to the Ockenden maternity review.

On Friday I will tell you what I would want to know in your place. Honestly, and in simple words.

Friday 23 October, 12pm to 1pm

Free and live on Zoom. It's at lunchtime, so bring your lunch. There is no recording, so please join live.

This session is information, not medical advice. It works alongside your NHS care, never instead of it. If you are worried about you or your baby, call your maternity unit.
