About me

Hi, I'm Emma - registered midwife, quality improvement specialist, and the person behind Elythia Maternity.

I have been a registered midwife since 2008. I trained in Italy, worked across the NHS in multiple regions, and spent time practising in the UAE before returning to the UK. Alongside my clinical work, I completed a Master's degree in Midwifery at the University of Dundee in 2020.

For much of my NHS career I worked not just at the bedside but in leadership and quality improvement - looking at how maternity services could do better for the women using them. I led national work on quality standards for maternity and abortion care, presented at conferences, and spent years asking the question: where are the gaps, and how do we fill them?

Elythia Maternity is my answer to one of the biggest gaps I kept seeing. Women who are informed, intelligent, and motivated - and who are still leaving appointments with unanswered questions, turning to Google at midnight, and feeling like they are navigating one of the most important experiences of their lives without enough support.

That is what I built this for.

What I bring to Elythia Maternity

Clinical experience

I have worked in NHS maternity units across the UK as well as in Italy and the UAE. I know what good care looks like, I know where the system falls short, and I know what women actually need to hear - not just what fits into a ten-minute appointment.

Academic grounding

My Master's in Midwifery gives me a deep understanding of the evidence base behind pregnancy and birth care. Everything inside Elythia Maternity is grounded in current, NHS-aligned evidence - not trends, not anecdote.

Quality improvement

I spent years in NHS leadership roles looking at how maternity services could work better. That lens - asking what works, what does not, and what women actually experience - shapes everything about how Elythia Maternity is designed.
